Why Middle-Grade/Young Teen Action Adventure?
Raising three boys, I'm dismayed at the lack of action adventure books for middle-school and junior high aged boys. Even fewer are books with Christian themes. So I wrote one. The hero of the story is not your typical save-the-day role model. He's flawed. Selfish. Mean. He has a lot to learn.
Yet writing him has humbled me and has taught me so much.

In this fast-paced action adventure for ages 12-14, join three friends as they take on an evil serpent, play football, and embark on a dangerous quest. Our unlikely hero is Percy Jackson meets Edmund from The Chronicles of Narnia.
After his wealthy father ships him off to Thornside Academy, a dismal boarding school in the middle of upstate nowhere, 8th grader Holden Chase is miserable. And all the other kids at his crappy new school look like total losers.
To make matters worse, on his first day, he sees snake monsters lurking around the school. He must be losing his mind. Convinced he’s imagining things, Holden focuses on trying out for the football team and being as popular as he was at his old school. These Thornside Academy kids need to learn who’s boss, and it’s Holden Chase!
The only problem is, the snake demons KEEP COMING BACK. And they claim Holden Chase belongs to them. When a dangerous quest is the only way to find a weapon to defeat the snakes, will Holden and his friends be victorious or fall?
The Spirit Sword is an action-adventure story about fighting demons in the only way that works. A fast-paced read for boys and girls, this is the first installment in The Whole Armor series.
